Austin Street Art

[ 3 ] November 15, 2010 |

We recently took a trip down to Austin, TX and I was really curious about what kind of scene they would have down there. Before getting there everyone had told us about how cool Austin is, from the music scene, to the food and all around good vibes. Naturally I expected a prominent art scene as well. ¬†While I did find a few spots around town, overall the scene seems pretty small. Then again, Austin is a pretty small city. I assume it’s a mixture of UT students and local cats. We only found one piece by an artist we knew, Faile, and that appeared on the side of a now defunct gallery. (Oh yeah, Obey was there, but that doesn’t really count.) There was also a good mix of graff artists and some of the more traditional street stuff, posters, stencils, etc. Here’s a look at some pieces we found.

Odd, none of the images you posted look familiar at all, and I’m a local. Where did you go? There’s a lot of street art around Lamar and 5th downtown, around East 6th street and around UT campus.

Faile and Stoke were right downtown by UT. Other stuff just around not really sure. Post up some more stuff if you got it.

Wow, I have actually seen so much street art in austin, but I’ve never seen these. There are loads of cool wall murals on UT campus, and in random odds and ends spots you might not have looked at.
